On 3–4 October, OILS brought together researchers and professionals in Zurich for a two-day open-science hackathon focused on making research more efficient, sustainable, reproducible and open.

Working with challenge partners CRS, Citizen Science Zurich and Socorex, interdisciplinary teams explored reproducible data workflows, accessible open hardware and better maintenance guidance for laboratory instruments. Expert briefings, a workshop on open datasets from CERN and dedicated mentor support helped teams turn their ideas into practical concepts and prototypes.

Collaboration and open sharing remained central throughout the weekend. With the teams’ approval, Open Project Records are being published in the OpSciHack–OILS Zenodo Community, providing openly accessible documentation and persistent DOIs.
